Resolve the Block: "Phone verification failed. This number type is not supported." on Stripe
Blocked during Stripe verification? That red-banner message means the carrier lookup flagged your number as virtual. A dedicated hardware line resolves it instantly.
Error Diagnostics
“Phone verification failed. This number type is not supported.”
Diagnostic: STRIPE_LINE_REJECT classification resolved via T-Mobile Network physical routing node.
3-step fix
- 1
Rent a dedicated line
Choose a US line routed through T-Mobile Network and complete checkout with crypto — no KYC required.
- 2
Enter it into Stripe
Paste your new number into the Stripe verification field exactly as provided, including the country code.
- 3
Receive and enter the code
The SMS code arrives in seconds. Enter it to complete verification — no more VoIP rejection.
Line-Type Diagnostic Scan
Enter any number to run a carrier-registry lookup and see exactly why Stripe rejects it — the same check their servers run against you.
What's actually happening behind this error
Behind the scenes, Stripe sends your number to a carrier-lookup provider (commonly Twilio Lookup, Telesign, or an equivalent HLR query service) the moment you submit it. That query returns a line-type classification — Mobile, Landline, or VoIP. Stripe's registration backend hard-codes a rejection whenever that field comes back as VoIP, regardless of anything else about your account, browser, or IP address.
Why a “fresh” free number won't help
The reason a "fresh" free number often fails immediately is simple: Stripe and dozens of other platforms share overlapping carrier-lookup blocklists. Once a range gets flagged by one lookup provider, that flag often propagates across providers — so the "new" number you just got assigned may have failed this exact check hours before you ever touched it.
Compliance note: phone verification is one control among many used by banks, payment processors, and exchanges. Using a dedicated line to pass carrier checks does not bypass identity verification (KYC), account terms of service, or regional eligibility rules — you are responsible for complying with each platform's own policies.
Nationwide US coverage
GotSMS' US carrier pool reaches every US state, provisioning real cellular lines coast to coast. Stripe's carrier-lookup check sees a real, local-looking area code — never a flagged VoIP range.

Who actually needs this for Stripe?
The Developer / QA Engineer
Automating SMS-verification flows in CI/CD without a rack of burner phones on a desk.
Pain Point: CI pipelines failing at the phone-verification step because there's no real, receivable number behind them.
Outcome: A REST endpoint that returns a live OTP — no phones, no manual steps.
The Content Creator / Streamer
Verifying creator and monetization accounts across platforms without exposing a personal number to a public audience.
Pain Point: A personal number becoming discoverable through account-recovery flows once a channel or profile goes public.
Outcome: Creator accounts fully verified with zero personal number exposed to viewers or leaked databases.
Renters who hit this exact error
“Wired the API straight into our CI pipeline for signup flow tests. Wish the docs had one more code example but otherwise does exactly what it says.”
“Needed a US line to re-verify an Upwork account that got flagged. Line was live in under a minute and the code landed instantly. Didn't expect it to just work first try.”
